Back with the Wind

There’s cobwebs in this blog-I haven’t been here in ages. Maybe because I believed that what I had to say was no different from what hundreds of millions, if not billions of people are expressing right now-what the hell is going to happen? I’ve never seen a time in my entire life when people give a shit about nothing else but how to get out of this recession. Immigration, Guantanamo, Border security, Iraq, tax problems of certain Obama nominees -even though the newscasts are full of that stuff and pound us with it over and over and over again, WE DON’T CARE! Glad I’m not a talk show host at this very moment, because all I could talk about was how you can make a meal out of nothing but a box of Hamburger Helper, because, as cousin Eddie announced with precongnizance in National Lampoon’s Vacation, “It tastes good all by itself!” Come to think of it, that would be better than most of the prattle on the airwaves.

Of course stuffed into these other media stories are apocalyptic predictions of how the US, and then the entire world, is going to collapse economically-how everyone will lose their jobs, their homes, their cars, and we’re all going to be living outside in tattered remnants of what once were Lucky Brand jeans and Manolo’s, freezing our asses off and eating rotten vegetables, just like Scarlett O’ Hara in Gone With the Wind. (My fave movie!)

But just as Scarlett O’ Hara rose up from the ravaged field, her tattered party dress but a remnant of the soirees she once held in thrall, grabbed her rotten tuber, held it up defiantly to the sky, and vowed “I will never go hungry again,” so shall I. Gotta go start my quest. I can easily find a rotten tuber at those Big Lot discount food stores, but it may take a few more days to find a wedding dressed ripped to shreds by some bitter divorcee to stand in for Scarlett’s trashed party frock.
